Why are my Frame Rules not allowing me to edit frames?

Created on 27th August 2019 at 17:25 by Jamie O'Connell

Frame Rules allow users to manually resize text or image frames during a job.

However, there are some times when a frame cannot be manually resized:

  • If a text frame is set up to automatically resize based on the content.
  • If the frame does not contain content that is editable in the job.

Check if the frames have 'auto-size' enabled

If the frame size is being controlled by InDesign, then the user cannot manually resize the frame. You can check this setting while in the one2editâ„¢ Master Document Editor, or while in InDesign.

one2edit:

  • Move the mouse over the top-right corner of the frame.
  • Choose 'Text Frame Options' from the pop-out menu.

InDesign:

  • Right-click on the frame.
  • Choose 'Text Frame Options...' from the context menu.

If the auto-size option is enabled for the frame, you must disable it to allow manual editing.

NOTE:
Only text frames can be set to 'auto size'. Image frames do not have that option.

Is the content of the frame editable in the job?

The controls in one2edit mean that only selected content can be edited.

Following on from this, users may only edit a frames if they can also edit the content within that frame. This is to ensure that user may only edit the parts of the document that have been 'released' for editing.
