Projects > Menu: File

Created on 18th November 2016 at 17:03 by Jamie O'Connell

This section describes the 'File' menu in the 'Projects' tab.

Important:

Please note that this section only describes the menu options at a high-level. For more in-depth explanations, please refer to the appropriate parts of the manual.

'File > Open'

If you select a project (1) and then click 'File > Open', you will open the 'Master Document Editor'.

'Master Document Editor'

For more details, please refer to the the 'Master Document Editor' interface description.

'File > Reveal in Asset Browser'

The second command in the 'File' menu is 'Reveal in Asset Browser'. This option will open the asset browser and highlight the InDesign® file that was used to create the selected project.

'File > New Folder'

'File > New Folder'

With the 'New Folder' command, you can create a new folder (giving it a name of your choice) and assign folder access permissions.

'File > New Project'

'File > New Project'

If you click on 'File > New Project', the 'New Project' window will be opened.

With the 'New Project' window you can create a new project in the selected directory. Once the new project has been linked to an InDesign® document, details such as the fonts and links will become available to view.

'File > New Book'

'File > New Book'

If you want to combine various InDesign® documents into one PDF, you can choose the option 'File > New Book'. Once the book has been created (by clicking 'Apply'), you can drag and drop documents into the 'Projects' tab of this window.

Example:

You are editing a brochure of about 40 pages within one2edit™ and have therefore split up the document into multiple master documents. In the end you want to combine all master documents into one final file again. Therefore you choose the 'New Book' option to export the documents as either a PDF or a 'Book'.

'File > Assistants > Import Documents'

'File > Assistants > Import Documents'

If you choose 'File > Assistants > Import Documents', you will open the 'Document Import Assistant', as shown in the following image.

'Document Import Assistant'

'Document Import Assistant'

The 'Document Import Assistant' allows you to import multiple InDesign® documents simultaneously. It also enables you to assign content groups and workflows to all of the documents at once.

'File > Browse Asset Spaces'

'File > Browse Asset Spaces'

As final option, you can choose 'File > Browse Asset Spaces' to open the 'Asset Browser' window. The 'Asset Browser' offers you a wide variety of options:

(1) 'Icons' or 'List'

Choose your preference for how the files should be displayed - icons or list.

(2) 'Refresh'

Make sure to refresh the 'Asset Browser' view before creating a new project. This will ensure that you are using the latest version of the file.

(3) 'Add New Folder'

If you have write access, you can add new folders to your asset space.

(4) 'Rename' / 'Delete'

If you have write access, you can rename (i) or delete (x) files and folders.

(5) 'Download' / 'Upload'

You can download or upload single files here. If you need to upload a folder, you should first create a .zip archive of that folder.

(6) 'Extract Zip' / 'Create Zip'

Compress or uncompress files directly in the 'Asset Browser'.

(7) 'Filter'

Use this filter to limit the files that are displayed in the 'Asset Browser', e.g., only show InDesign® documents.

(8) 'Create Project'

New projects can also be created from documents via the 'Asset Browser' window. Simply select an InDesign file (INDD or IDML) and click this button.
