How can I duplicate/split a project?

Created on 28th October 2015 at 16:23 by Jamie O'Connell

This lesson shows how to duplicate a project.

Click 'Edit > Duplicate'

  1. Select a project.
  2. Click 'Edit > Duplicate' to open the 'Duplicate Project' window. It is there that you will choose what happens to any version documents in the project.

Option 1: Duplicate none of the version documents to the new project

Selecting 'None' from the 'Versions' drop-down menu will ignore all version documents in the project and duplicate only the master document.

Option 2: Copy selected version documents to the new project

Selecting 'Copy selected' from the 'Versions' drop-down menu allows you to select which versions to duplicate along with the master document.

You can also select to:

  • Copy Workflows: The workflows of the selected versions will also be duplicated to the new project.
  • Keep Element Statuses: The status of each document element (e.g. 'Translated', 'New', etc.) in the selected version documents will be retained.
  • Start Workflows: The workflows of the duplicated version documents will be automatically started (i.e. users in those workflows will now see two jobs in their 'Jobs' tab – one from the old project and one from the new project).

NOTE:
Any 'copied' version documents will remain with the original project, while exact copies of them will be created in the new project.

Option 3: Move selected version documents to the new project

Selecting 'Move selected' from the 'Versions' drop-down menu will move all selected version documents to the new project.

These moved version documents will retain their workflows, and the status of all elements in those workflows. The end-user will not notice that a duplication has taken place.

NOTE:
When a version document is moved to the new project, it is no longer present in the original project. This action cannot be un-done (i.e. it is not possible to subsequently move a version document back to its original project).

Project is duplicated

The new project name consists of the old project name with a prefix of "Copy of...", as shown above.

NOTE:
To change the name of a project, open the 'Project Details' window via 'Edit > Properties'.
