Why can I not edit any content in my job?

Created on 07th May 2015 at 17:20 by Jamie O'Connell

If you are unable to edit any text in a one2edit™ job, please check the following with your local one2edit™ workspace administrator.

The content may not be in your content group

  • The first thing to check is if you should be able to edit that content. If the content does not highlight when you move your mouse over it, then it may not be in your content group. If you feel that this is in error, please contact your local one2edit™ workspace administrator.

The content may not be at your workflow step

  • It is possible for a review step to begin before the edit/translation step has finished. If this is the case, the reviewer may not yet have access to all items of content for the job.
  • If the content does not highlight when you move your mouse over it, then it may not yet be in your workflow step. In this case, you will need to wait until it has been committed to your workflow step (job).

Check that the layer is not locked

  • If the layer on which the content resides is locked, then no content on that layer can be edited. Your one2edit™ workspace administrator can change this, if required.

In the above example, no content on 'Layer 1' will be editable, even if it is in a one2edit™ content group.

Check that the workflow step is not set to "No editing possible..."

  • If the workflow step has "No editing possible (notes only)" checked (as shown above), then no text will be editable during that workflow step. Your one2edit™ workspace administrator can change this, if required.

In the above example, no content at the 'Edit Step' will be editable. It will only be possible to add notes to the content and mark it as 'Done'.

Ensure that the text is not "generated text", e.g., a 'Table of Contents'

  • Text that is generated by InDesign, such as a table of contents (TOC), cannot be edited by the user. This is because InDesign holds the sole editing rights to that text, i.e., the text needs to be generated depending on how the document is set up.
