Why is my exported Document not attached to my Email?

Created on 12th October 2026 at 15:48 by Jamie O'Connell

In one2edit™, a file that is exported via email is never attached to that email. This is because the size of generated files can be far in excess of what is allowed by most email servers.

Instead, a download link is generated, and a placeholder/variable for this link must be inserted into the email text by the administrator.

This can be done by either:

  • clicking: Insert Variables... > Download Link
  • manually entering the variable text into the email body: {download.uri}

Export Document Dialog

  1. Select Target > Generate Link to send a download link by email.
  2. Fill in the recipient, subject, and message body as you would for any email.
  3. Type the variable placeholders {download.uri} and {download.expire} into the message body. Variables can also be inserted to the body text by using the Insert Variables... drop-down menu.
  4. Click Export to generate a file of the chosen type, and send the email containing the generated download link.

NOTE: Inserting {download.expire} will inform your user of the expiry date of the link, which is 7 days after it is generated.

Exporting via Workflow Action

Similarly, when setting up an email export as a workflow action, you should be sure to include the same placeholder variables in the body text:

  • {download.uri}
  • {download.expire}
