How do I set the Source and Target Languages for my Project?

Created on 08th October 2026 at 10:48 by Jamie O'Connell

In a translation project, you will set your source and target languages for a job.

  • The source language is the current/original language of your document.
  • The target language is the language into which you will translate the document.

NOTE: You must ensure that your one2edit™ Language Set also contains the source language, not just the target languages.

Check the Languages in your Language Set

When setting up a Language Set in one2edit™, you must ensure that it contains the source language of the master document alongside the target languages. If the source language is not present, it is not possible for one2edit™ to find or create relationships between the source and target languages.

Moreover, it is vital to check that the Language Set contains the correct variants of each language. For example, the Language Set above contains French (France), which would be different from French (Canada). Similarly, English (United States) is different from English (United Kingdom). You may not need every variant, but you should ensure that the set contains the variants that you do need.

NOTE: Access your Language Sets via Settings > Language Sets in the main navigation menu.

Selecting the Source Language of a Project

When setting up your source-language document for translation, you will create at least one Content Group of type Translation.

It is here that you select what the source language of your document is, via the Source Language drop-down menu.

NOTE: The list of languages from which to choose is not filtered by the languages available in a specific Language Set (because you may have multiple Language Sets on your system). You should, therefore, take care to select the correct language variant at this point.

Setting the Target Language of a Translation Workflow

The target language is set in the translation workflow itself.

Drag-and-drop the target language from your Language Set to the Language field of the workflow. You will need to create a separate workflow for each target language.

NOTE: Each Language Set has a separate Translation Memory. This means that the target languages for your translation workflows should all come from a single Language Set.

NOTE: Access your Language Sets via Settings > Language Sets in the main navigation menu.
