How do I use the Search-and-Replace Tool in the Job Editor?

Created on 18th September 2026 at 08:26 by Olaf Walther

Words and phrases can be searched for (and replaced) using the Search and Replace tool.

Regular expressions can be used for pattern-matching, if required.

NOTE: This tool is only available in the Job Editor.

Search and Replace

Click the Search and Replace button to open the Search and Replace dialog.

Search for Text

  1. Type a term for which you want to search into the Search field.
  2. Check any required boxes:
    • Ignore Case: Ignores if the letters are upper- or lower-case. In this example, it would mean that "strong" will match with "Strong".
    • Use Regexp: Check this box if your search term is in the form of a regular expression.
  3. Click Search.
  4. The search results will be displayed in the form of a document structure. The first hit is automatically selected, and the editor opened.
  5. The first appearance of the search term is automatically highlighted in the editor.

Replace Text

If you wish to replace your search term with different text, do the following.

  1. Type the replacement text into the Replace field.
  2. Click the Search button to search for the text.
  3. Click Replace Selection to replace the selected text.

NOTE: The replacement text will be entered exactly as typed, so be sure that your upper- and lower-case letters conform to the text you are replacing.

  1. The text will be replaced and rendered in the document.
  2. The search will proceed to the next hit in the list, allowing you to keep clicking Replace Selection to replace multiple hits.

NOTE: If Ignore Case is checked, you must take care that any replacement text matches the required capitalization of the search hit.

Can I perform a One-Click Global Search-and-Replace?

There is no Replace All functionality, because each replacement needs to be checked.

For example, the search above would also get a hit in the word "stronger". If a replacement was applied without caution, it would result in a non-word: "powerfuler".

Each change should be signed off by a person. This will reduce the number of review/approval cycles that need to take place in the workflow.
