Why can I not insert or delete Paragraph Characters?

Created on 17th September 2026 at 15:32 by Olaf Walther

In the Job Editor, the Enter key inserts a line break (i.e. soft return) by default instead of a paragraph character (i.e. hard return). Moreover, the user is also not permitted to delete paragraph characters.

If users require permissions to insert and/or delete paragraph characters in a one2edit™ job, you must create a Content Rule for this.

NOTE: This only applies to editing text in the Job Editor.

Text > Input > Paragraph Character > Allow

In your Content Rule:

  1. Check the box for: Text > Input > Paragraph character
  2. Ensure the option is set to Allow.
  3. Click Save.

Users can now insert and delete hard returns using Enter in any job to which this rule is applied.

Shift-Enter is used to input soft returns (i.e. line breaks). To allow this, use the option Newline Character.

NOTE: This option can be set in existing Content Rules, which will affect all jobs that use those rules. Alternatively, you can create a new rule specifically for this permission, and then add it to projects alongside your existing rules.

NOTE: This permission also allows users to delete paragraph characters from existing text.
