How to display all overset Text in a Document

Created on 10th June 2026 at 13:14 by Jamie O'Connell

Translated text is typically of a different length to the original source text. If your document has not been designed to cater to text growth, this can lead to overset text in parts of your translated document.

This lesson explains how to filter the Document Structure to only display text segments containing overset text.

Overset Text Indicator

The first thing that we notice is that our document does contain overset text.

Spreads containing overset text are indicated by a yellow warning triangle in the thumbnails and in the document structure.

Set an Overset Text Filter

Open the Structure panel and click on the Filter accordion to expand it.

Click the + (plus) button, and choose to add a Text Overset filter.

Check the box for Match Oversets and click the checkmark button to apply the filter.

NOTE: You can apply more than one filter at a time, if required.

Structure contains only Overset Segments

The document structure now displays only those text segments that contain overset text.

In a large document, there may be overset text in segments on many spreads, but all of them will be shown here.

Double-click on any item in the structure to jump the preview to that item.
