How do I open the Editor if I have a Workflow on my Standalone Document?

Created on 10th June 2026 at 13:13 by Jamie O'Connell

It is possible to add a workflow to a standalone document.

However, double-clicking a standalone document that has a workflow assigned to it will open the Workflow Editor view, not the Document Editor.

If you wish to, for example, change what content is in the Content Groups, to add/delete a frame, to update the Content Rules, etc., you will require the document to be opened in the editor.

Step 1: Pause the Workflow

The first step that you need to take is to pause the workflow.

To do this, click Workflow > Pause Workflow in the document's context menu.

This ensures that no job is currently running on the document.

The paused workflow is indicated by a faded progress bar.

Step 2: Open Document

Once the workflow has been paused, click Open Document in the document's context menu to open it in the editor.

NOTE: Double-clicking the document will still open the Workflow View as before.

The document opens in the editor, and you are free to make your desired changes.
