How do I Limit the Choice of Replacement Images?

Created on 10th June 2026 at 13:11 by Jamie O'Connell

If your translation/localization jobs require the localization of images, you can use Content Rules to define the folders from which the user can choose their replacement images.

Create or Edit a Content Rule

In the Content Rules (Policies) dialog (accessed via Settings > Content Rules in the main navigation menu), do the following:

  1. Choose a folder.
  2. Create a new rule by clicking on the + (plus) action button.
  3. Alternatively, you can edit an existing Content Rule by double-clicking it, or choosing Properties from its context menu.

NOTE: In this lesson, we will be creating a new rule, but the same steps can be taken when editing an existing rule.

Image > Edit > Replace

  1. Give the rule a name (if it is a new rule).
  2. Expand the tree and check the box under Image > Edit > Replace.
  1. Uncheck Allow All in the right-hand pane. This will remove access to a user's usual Asset Projects.
  2. Click Add to add a folder from which users can choose images.
  1. Select the folder in which your localization images reside.
  2. Click Choose.
  1. The selected folder has now been added to the list. You can repeat the above steps to add as many folders as you require.
  2. There are two options shown when you add a folder - Recursive and Upload.
    • Recursive: Checking this box means that users can also access any sub-folders of your chosen folder. Leaving this unchecked means that users can access images in the chosen folder only.
    • Upload: Checking this box enables users to upload their own images to the chosen folder during the replacement process. Leaving this unchecked means that users will not have any upload option, and will be required to choose from the images in your selected folder.
  3. To remove the folder from the list, click the X on the right.
  1. Once you are satisfied with your setup, click Save.

NOTE: If you were editing an existing Content Rule, then this new image-replacement option will immediately take effect in any Jobs that use this Content Rule.

NOTE: Image Upload Options

If you do want to permit users to upload their own images, you can set some restrictions on what they can upload.

Under Image > Edit > Replace > Upload, you will find options for:

  • Format: Choose which file formats are permitted to be uploaded by the end user.
  • Min. & Max. File Size: Set a minimum or maximum file size for the image.

NOTE: Because images can be rescaled in the editor, it is not possible to define a min/max dpi at the upload stage. However, this can be controlled using the Image > Edit > Min. DPI setting, which will inform a user if their rasterized image has too low an effective resolution.
