Can one2edit™ automatically update Outdated Links?

Created on 10th June 2026 at 13:11 by Jamie O'Connell

Links become outdated in an Adobe® InDesign® document when they are modified after having been linked to the document.

The file is still present, but has been changed somehow. Therefore, it must be updated in the document, to ensure that the most up-to-date high-resolution links are used when creating a PDF.

It is possible to enable a setting that will automatically update any outdated links when a document is opened, so that you do not need to manually update the links.

NOTE: Depending on what you changed about the linked file, you may need to re-do its fitting in the document.

NOTE: This functionality cannot help with missing links. It can only update an outdated link, not choose a replacement for a missing link.

Option: Auto-Update Outdated Images

Under Settings > Client Workspace Settings, there is an option for: Auto-update outdated images.

This option is unchecked by default. Checking this box will automatically update any outdated links in a document as soon as that document is opened for editing in one2edit™.

NOTE: If you do enable this option, please be aware that linked images, etc. may change in your documents without warning.
