How can I reset Images in my Version Documents?

Created on 10th June 2026 at 13:10 by Jamie O'Connell

You may be required to reset one or more segments or images to their original state in the source document. This is done via the source document, and will reset the chosen content items in the selected version documents to the source-document settings.

NOTE: This article is about resetting content items (i.e. text segments and images), not document layout items (e.g. frames, groups, etc.).

Select Content Items to reset and click Reset Versions

  1. Select the content items you wish to reset. You can select them via the Structure Panel or directly in the preview.
  2. Click the Reset Versions button in the toolbar.

NOTE: You do not need to Lock Versions to reset items in your Version Documents.

NOTE: Selecting multiple items across multiple spreads should be done via the Structure Panel, where all items on all spreads can be visible at once.

NOTE: You can Filter the structure to shown only the items you wish to reset (e.g. specific item IDs, types, etc.).

Reset Segments and Images in Version Documents

This opens the Reset Segments and Images in Version Documents dialog.

By default, no checkboxes are set.

NOTE: If the Apply button in the dialog is inactive, then you may not have selected any content items. Please close the dialog, select the content items (segments and/or images – not frames/spreads/etc.), and then click the Reset Versions button again to re-open this dialog.

Choose Version Documents and Item Status

  1. Select the Version Documents in which you want to reset the selected content items.
  2. If the items are assigned to a Content Group, you can also choose to reset their workflow status (e.g. send the items back to the Translation step).
  3. Click Apply.

Your chosen content items will be reset in your chosen Version Documents once you save and close this document.

Close Document and Save Changes

Close the document and save your changes to reset the selected content in the selected Version Documents.

NOTE: If you do not save changes, the content items will not be reset in the Version Documents.

NOTE: A workflow must be present and running on a Version Document for items in that Version to be reset. If a workflow is currently paused, or if no workflow is assigned to the Version Document, its content will not be reset nor have the status changed.
