How to style Text Rules – Style Overrides

Created on 29th January 2018 at 12:28 by Jamie O'Connell

The replacement text in a Text Rule can be styled using character styles or style overrides.

This lesson explains how to apply a style override to your text.

Select the characters to which the styling should be applied

In the 'Replace With' field, select the characters to which the style override should be applied.

NOTE:
If you do not explicitly select any characters, then the system will not know to which characters the styling should be applied, and the styling will not be applied.

NOTE:
It is not possible to apply a paragraph style to replacement text, as a Text Rule typically only applies to a portion of a paragraph (e.g. a word or phrase).

Style selection using style overrides

  1. Choose the style overrides to apply to your selection.
  2. The style override will be reflected in the 'Replace With' field, as well as the 'Example' field (if you have entered an example).

NOTE:
Blue square brackets are only used to indicate that a style override has been applied if that override cannot be displayed visually (e.g. changes to 'Horizontal Scale', 'Kerning', etc.).

NOTE:
Multiple style overrides can be applied to a single selection. Just keep applying options.

NOTE:
Both character styles and style overrides can be applied to the same selection of characters.
