Export a Content Group from a Project

Created on 31st March 2026 at 09:49 by Olaf Walther

You can export the text of a Content Group directly from a project, before creating any language versions or jobs. This is useful for translation in a third-party translation management system (TMS).

Copies of this exported file can be translated, and then re-imported to automatically generate translated language versions in this project.

Export Content Group for Translation

  1. Select a project that has been set up with one or more Content Groups of type Translation.
  2. In the project's option menu, click Translation > Export Content Group for Translation.

This will open the dialog: Export contents for translation

Configure the Export

In this dialog, you can configure what to export.

  • Content group: Choose the Content Group that contains the text you wish to export. Please note that only Content Groups of type Translation will be listed here.
  • Format: Choose the format of the exported file. The options here are:
    • one2edit Translation: This is an XML file format based on the XLIFF format. The file extension is .o2et
    • one2edit Translation (Absolute Tagging): This is also an XML file format, but with strict XML tagging. The file extension is .o2ea
    • XLIFF: This is a standard file format for translation files. The file extension is .xlf
  • Source Language: Choose the language to be used as the source language in the exported file. By default, this is the language chosen for the Content Group. Other languages will only be available if there are fully-completed translation jobs in this project.

When you have selected your options, click Export.

NOTE: You can only export one Content Group at a time.

NOTE: All of these file formats contain the necessary information for translation of styled InDesign content with a third-party translation system.

NOTE: Please check what file formats are supported by your third-party translation software.

Download Exported File

Clicking the Export button will close the dialog.

  1. The export will be visible in your notifications.
  2. Once the export has completed, select Download from the notification's option menu.
