Place an Image or Snippet into a v4 Source Document

Created on 10th February 2026 at 18:01 by Olaf Walther

Content such as images or InDesign® IDML snippets can be placed into documents.

What is a Snippet?
A snippet consists of text and/or images that has been exported in an IDMS format from Adobe® InDesign®.

NOTE: Placing items into a document creates frames for those items. Frames can only be created in the source document, and will be added to any version documents in the project.

Place Tool

Click on the Place tool to start the process.

Choose Item

Select the item you wish to place and click Place.

In this example, we are selecting a snippet (file extension: IDMS).

Place Item

Use the cursor to place the item at the desired location.

NOTE: Alt-Click will place a snippet at the same location from which it was exported, i.e., at the same x-y co-ordinates on the spread. This is identical to the Adobe® InDesign® functionality.

The content has now been placed in the document, and can be edited.
