Adding Content to a Content Group

Created on 08th December 2016 at 17:55 by Jamie O'Connell

This lesson will go through the process of adding content to a content group.

Select the 'Unassigned Items' tab

Select the 'Unassigned Items' tab

Click on the 'Unassigned Items' tab at the top of the screen.

This will filter out all those items that have already been assigned to a content group.

Open the 'Structure' panel

Open the 'Structure' panel

Click on the 'Structure' button on the left of the screen, as shown, to open the 'Structure' panel. This displays the document structure.

NOTE:

At this point in the process, every element in the document will be displayed because we have not yet assigned any content to a content group.

Document Structure

Document Structure

The structure of the document is divided up into hierarchical sections - spreads at the top, then frames, then groups, then frames, then tables, then cells.

Text within a text frame is further divided into text segments. Segmentation breaks text into 'Translation Units' to assist with translation memory (TM) matching.

NOTE:
If you are using a translation memory (TM),  you should use the same segmentation rules within one2edit as you have used when populating your TM.

Drag Content to the Content Group

Drag Content to the Content Group

To add an entire text frame to a content group, simply drag it from the structure panel to the content group's tab at the top of the page.

This same 'drag and drop' method can be used to add text segments, tables, images, etc. to a content group.

Click 'OK'

Click 'OK'

This warning will appear if you drag a frame, table, spread, etc. into a content group with no content explicitly selected. Check the box if you do not wish for this warning message to re-appear for this session.

Click 'OK' and continue working.

NOTE:

one2edit™ uses this warning to remind you that you are moving content from that frame into the content group, and not the frames themselves (because frames are not content).

View Content Assigned to Content Group

If you now click on the tab for the content group at the top of the page, you can see from the structure panel that it contains the content that you have assigned to it. Furthermore, this same content has disappeared from the 'Unassigned Items' structure panel.

  1. If you click on the text frame in the structure panel, it will indicate the appropriate text frame on the document preview.
  2. Moreover, if you mouse-over the text inside that text frame, it will be highlighted in our content group's chosen colour.

NB - You may notice that, because you have selected your content group tab at the top, the only content available is that content that has been added to your content group. None of the other content in the preview document will be available to click on.

'File > Save & Close'

'File > Save & Close'

Now that you have assigned content to your content group, you are finished with the master document.

Close the document by clicking 'File > Save & Close'.
