Content Rules: Predefined Paragraph & Character Styles

Created on 28th November 2016 at 18:02 by Jamie O'Connell

The 'Text > Styles' portion of a Content Rule defines which styles are available to an editor.

NOTE:
The available styles will be those created in the original InDesign document.

'Allow All'

'Allow All'

The options available under 'Text > Styles' are:

  • Paragraph: you can grant access to some or all of the paragraph styles in the document.
  • Character: you can grant access to some or all of the character styles in the document.

By default, the 'Allow All' option is selected. This will permit users to choose from all of the styles that exist within the document.

If you wish to limit what styles can be used by an editor/reviewer, you must first uncheck this box.

'Paragraph'

'Paragraph'

You can permit job editors/reviewers to select:

  • paragraph styles that names match the selected criteria (you can define multiple criteria here to be 'AND'-ed together)
  • paragraph styles from folder names that match the selected criteria (you can define multiple criteria here to be 'AND'-ed together)

In the example above, we can define:

  • Allow styles whose (folder) name is 'headline'.
  • Allow styles whose (folder) name is not 'headline'.
  • Allow styles whose (folder) name contains 'headline'.
  • Allow styles whose (folder) name does not contain 'headline'.
  • Allow styles whose (folder) name ends with 'headline'.
  • Allow styles whose (folder) name does not end with 'headline'.
  • Allow styles whose (folder) name begins with 'headline'.
  • Allow styles whose (folder) name does not begin with 'headline'.

You may also select 'Regular expression' and enter a regex pattern into the field.

  • To add more criteria to a section, click the green '+' button.
  • To delete criteria from a section, click the red 'X' button.

TIP:
Access to a folder containing paragraph styles specifically for copy-fitting may be granted here.
