Packaging your InDesign® Document for use with one2edit™

Created on 28th November 2016 at 10:53 by Jamie O'Connell

Creating a Package in Adobe® InDesign is a way to collect all of the links and fonts associated with your document together in one place.

Packages are created using Adobe InDesign desktop.

Create a Package in Adobe® InDesign®

Create a Package in Adobe® InDesign®

With your document open, click 'File > Package'

'Package' window

'Package' window

The 'Package' window will show you if any fonts used in the document are missing. If they are, they cannot be packaged.

Click 'Package...' to continue.

NOTE:
Any fonts missing from the package may not be available in one2edit™ once the package has been uploaded.
If you have already uploaded all fonts centrally to your one2edit™ Client Workspace, then they do not need to be included in the package.

Fill in any relevant details and click 'Continue'.

Create the InDesign® Document Package folder

Create the InDesign® Document Package folder
  1. Give the folder a name.
  2. Select 'Copy Fonts', 'Copy Linked Graphics' and 'Update Graphic Links in Package',
  3. Click 'Package'.

This will create a folder containing all of the file required to create a project in your one2edit™ Client Workspace.

NOTE:
If fonts have already been uploaded centrally to your one2edit™ Client Workspace, then you may uncheck the 'Copy Fonts' box here.

Compress a 'Font Package'

Compress a 'Font Package'

To package the fonts, simply browse to the document's directory on your hard-drive and compress the 'Document fonts' folder into a .zip file using your normal method.

Example: On a Mac, this can be done by right-clicking the 'Document fonts' directory and choosing 'Compress "<folder name>"'

NOTE:
be sure to give the font package a meaningful name (e.g. MyDocumentNameFonts.zip) because this is what will be used to identify the font package after it has been uploaded to the one2edit™ servers.

Move the 'Font Package' to the 'Parent Folder'

Move the 'Font Package' to the 'Parent Folder'

We will now move the font package out of the document package folder.

We do not need this in the document package we are going to upload to the one2edit™ server.

'Compress Package Folder'

'Compress Package Folder'

We now need to compress the document package into a .zip file for uploading to the one2edit™ asset space. Do so using your usual method.

Two .zip 'File Packages'

Two .zip 'File Packages'

You should now have two .zip file packages located in your folder.

The font package ('Document fonts.zip') will be uploaded to one2edit™ via 'Settings > Font Packages'.

The InDesign package ('My Document Package.zip') will be uploaded to one2edit™ using the Asset Browser, accessed via 'File > Browse Asset Spaces'.
