Master Document Editor - Image Editing

Created on 18th November 2016 at 16:13 by Jamie O'Connell

This section gives an overview of the image-editing options within the 'Master Document Editor' ('MDE').

Important:

Please note that this section only describes the menu options at a high-level. For more in-depth explanations, please refer to the appropriate parts of the manual.

Image Editing Options within the MDE

When an image is being edited, there are some special tools available:

(1) 'Image Editor' panels

(2) 'Image Editor' window

'Image Editor - Replace'

'Image Editor - Replace'

When an image is being edited, the 'Image Editor' options window appears.

If you click 'Replace', a window will open up. From this window, you can select an image from your asset space or upload a new image. The selected image will then be placed in the frame.

'Image Editor - Fitting'

'Image Editor - Fitting'

If you click 'Fitting', the 'Fitting' window will appear and you can manually adjust the values.

(1) 'Crop Amount':

* Positive values will increase the image size beyond the frame. The picture will then be adjusted accordingly in the document preview.

* Negative values will reduce the image size in the frame, leaving borders between the image and the frame. The picture will then be adjusted accordingly in the document preview.

* You can choose whether the crop amount will be displayed in 'points' (pt), 'millimeters' (mm), 'inches' (in), or as a 'percentage' (%).

(2) 'Alignment':

* The 'Alignment' grid allows you to choose the 'Reference Point' for your image-fitting adjustments.

(3) Fitting on Empty Frame:

From the 'Fitting' drop-down menu you can choose between:

* 'None' - you must manually adapt the image to the frame

* 'Fit Content To Frame' - the image size will be adapted to the frame size, but the aspect ratio will not be maintained.

* 'Fit Content Proportionally' - the full image will be fit to the frame, and the aspect ratio will be maintained. However, this could leave empty space within the frame.

* 'Fit Frame Proportionally' - the image will fill the frame, and the aspect ratio will be maintained. However, this could mean that the image will be cropped.

(4) 'Preview'

* Check this box to see your changes being adapted to the 'Preview'.

NOTE:

The fitting options in this window are the same as in Adobe® InDesign®.

(2) 'Reset Version Images'

(2) 'Reset Version Images'

This panel controls the application of changes from the master document to version documents for the selected image.

'Reset Version Images'

If any changes are made to this image, you can choose that:

(1) previously defined settings (via 'File > Default Reset Settings' ) will be used for this image.

(2) this image will be marked as 'Needs Edit/Translation', 'Needs Adaptation' or 'Needs Review'.

(3) this image in the version documents should be replaced with the image from the master document. There is an option to do this only if this image hasn't already been changed in the version document.

(4) any image modification within the master document will be applied to version documents that are both still 'in progress' and 100% complete.

NOTE:

If none of the options above are chosen, the actions set under 'File > Default Reset Settings' will occur.

(3) 'Content Rules'

(3) 'Content Rules'

Using the 'Content Rules' window, you can apply 'Content Rules (Policies)' to individual images. Multiple content rules can be assigned for both, editors and reviewers.

NOTE:

Any content rules assigned in this panel will be added to those for the content group (logical AND). Therefore, care needs to be taken when creating and assigning content rules.

(4) 'Image Editor'

(4) 'Image Editor'

(1) 'Reference Point'

The alignment grid allows you to choose the 'Reference Point' for your image-fitting adjustments. The 'Reference Point' marks the point of origin for the X and Y value calculation, as well as the centre of rotation.

(2) 'X' and 'Y'

The zero-point for both axes lies in the upper-left corner of the image frame. The 'X' and 'Y' values of the selected reference point are displayed here. They can be displayed in 'points' (pt), 'millimetres' (mm), 'inches' (in), or 'percentage' (%).

(3) 'Maintain Aspect Ratio'

If the 'Maintain Aspect Ratio' button is selected, the width-to-height ratio of the image will be maintained.

(4) 'Width' and 'Height'

These values show the width and height of the image, which will be displayed in 'points' (pt), 'millimetres' (mm), 'inches' (in), or 'percentage' (%).

(5) 'Rotation angle'

An image can be rotated around the selected 'Reference Point' in two ways: by using the mouse, or by inserting a value into this field. The rotation angle is displayed in 'degrees' (°).

(6) 'Skew'

An image can also be skewed. Any skew value will be applied in reference to the selected X-Point. The skew value will be displayed in 'degrees' (°)

NOTE:

The features of this 'Image Editor' panel are identical to those in InDesign®.
