Master Document Editor - File menu

Created on 18th November 2016 at 16:13 by Jamie O'Connell

This section describes the 'File' menu in the 'Master Document Editor'.

Important:

Please note that this section only describes the menu options at a high-level. For more in-depth explanations, please refer to the appropriate parts of the manual.

'File' menu - options greyed out

(1) Clicking the 'File' menu will display a drop-down menu.

(2) NOTE:

Changes made to a master document can be rolled out to version documents. If version documents for this project exist, then these versions must be locked so that no changes are made to them while changes are being made to the master. You can do this either by choosing the 'Lock Versions' command in the 'File' menu or by clicking the 'Padlock' button in the top-right of your window. For more information on the options presented when locking versions, please see the 'File > Default Reset Settings' section below.

'File > Save'

The 'Save' command saves the current document to the one2edit™ system. The 'Master Document Editor' will remain open when the document is saved in this manner.

'File > Save & Close'

Clicking 'Save & Close' will save all your changes and close the editor. You will then be returned to the 'Projects' tab.

'File > Default Reset Settings'

'File > Default Reset Settings'

The 'Default Reset Settings' option sets the default inheritance events for any changes to the master-document content, i.e., what happens to that same content in the selected version document(s).

'Default Text Reset':

If any text changes are made to the master document, you can choose:

(1) that any changed segments will be marked as 'Needs Edit/Translation', 'Needs Adaptation' or 'Needs Review'.

(2) that the segments should be updated with the new content in the selected version documents. There is an option to do this only if those segments haven't already been changed in the selected version documents.

'Default Image Reset':

If any image changes are made to the master document, you can choose:

(3) that any changed images will be marked as 'Needs Edit/Translation', 'Needs Adaptation' or 'Needs Review'.

(4) that the images should be updated with the new images in the selected version documents. There is an option to do this only if those images haven't already been changed in the selected version documents.

'Default Layout Reset':

(5) If any layout changes (to frames or groups) have been made to the master document, you can choose whether these layout changes should be rolled out to the selected version documents. There is an option to do this only if those frames/groups haven't already been changed in the selected version documents.

'Default Versions':

(6) Select the version documents to which the changes will be applied, according to the settings on the left.

NOTE:

If none of the options above have been chosen, no changes made to the master document will be applied to any of the version documents.

NOTE:

Deleting items from the master document (e.g. deleting a text segment, layer, etc.) will affect all version documents, not just the ones selected.

'File > Default Frame Rules'

'File > Default Frame Rules'

Using the 'Default Frame Rules' command, you can determine the editor's freedom regarding the adaptation and layout of frames within a version document.

NOTE:

Users can only ever alter frames if they have editorial access to some content of that frame.

'File > Place'

'File > Place'

The 'Place' command allows you to import snippets or images from your asset space and place them into the master document. Frames will be automatically created for the content, as required.

NOTE:

It is possible to use the 'Alt' key to place a snippet at the same location on a spread from which it was originally exported (as in InDesign®).

'File > Download LowRes PDF'

'File > Download LowRes PDF'

Using the 'Download LowRes PDF' command, you can generate and download a low-res PDF (72 dpi) of the current document.

'File > Close'

'File > Close'

If you click 'File > Close' without having saved your changes to the document, one2edit™ will remind you to either do so or intentionally dismiss any changes.
