How to create Text Rules

Created on 09th December 2016 at 13:26 by Jamie O'Connell

Text Rules are created within Text Rule Sets.

Open 'Text Rules' window

Open 'Text Rules' window

Go to 'Settings > Text Rules' to open the 'Text Rules' window.

  1. Select a folder.
  2. Select a Text Rule Set where the new Text Rule will be saved in.
  3. Click 'New > New Text Rule'.

The 'New Text Rule' window will open.

NOTE:

For more details about this window, please refer to the 'User Interface Description' lessons in the one2edit Knowledge Base.

Create a new Text Rule

Create a new Text Rule
  1. Give your new Text Rule a name.
  2. Insert the text or regular expression that will be matched into the 'Find What' field.
  3. Put the desired result into the 'Replace With' window.
  4. Typing a match into the left-hand 'Example' field will display the result of this Text Rule in the right-hand 'Example' field.
  5. Click 'Save' to save and close this window.

NOTE:

It is advisable to give your Text Rules meaningful names. This will avoid needing to open a Text Rule for editing just to check what it does.

NOTE:

The 'Replace With' text can be styled as you see fit using the tools below the field. This styling and micro-typography will be applied to any matches in the one2edit editor.

NOTE:

When formatting the 'Replace With' text, any character styles used must exist in the target document (i.e. the name must match exactly). Furthermore, any glyphs entered in the 'Replace With' field must be supported by the fonts available in the target document.
