Knowledge Base / Administrators – Creating Projects Manually / Applying Segmentation Rules

Applying segmentation rules to a master document

Created on 25th November 2016 at 12:11 by Jamie O'Connell

This lesson shows you how to apply segmentation within the 'Master Document Editor'.

NOTE:
A detailed description of any window used here can be found in the 'User Interface Description' sections.

Open the 'Master Document Editor'

Open the 'Master Document Editor' by double clicking on your project.

'Tools > Apply Segmentation'

  1. By default, one2edit™ will segment the text in a document by paragraph (i.e. using the paragraph character as the signal for a segment break).
  2. In order to re-segment the entire document, you can click on 'Tools > Apply Segmentation' to open the 'Apply Segmentation' window.

NOTE:
The 'Text Segmentation Rules' used on a document should match those used in your translation memory.

'Apply Segmentation' window

'Apply Segmentation' window
  1. Apply to: Specify if you want to apply the text segmentation to the whole document, or just to selected parts of it.
  2. Action: Select the text-segmentation action to be performed, e.g., segment the text according to segmentation rules, InDesign® stories, paragraphs, etc.
  3. Segmentation Rule: If you choose to segment the text according to segmentation rules, you must choose the appropriate rule set here.
  4. Language: Choose the language of the master document. The segmentation rule set should contain rules corresponding to this language.

When you have chosen the appropriate settings, click the 'Apply' button to apply the chosen segmentation to the document (or portion thereof).

NOTE:
The 'one2edit Default' segmentation rules are always available. These rules are provided 'as is' and may meet your requirements. However, you should import the segmentation rules from your own translation memory in order to ensure the best translation matching in your workflow.

Segmented Text

The text segmentation in the document should now conform to what you have in your translation memory.

NOTE:
The underlying InDesign® document stories have NOT been affected by this segmentation action. The segmentation is purely for ease of translation, and the flow/design of the InDesign document will stay intact.
