'Dictionaries' window

'Dictionaries' window

The 'Dictionaries' window is where you manage your spelling dictionaries.

  1. 'New': create a 'New Dictionary' or 'Add default dictionaries'.
  2. 'Edit': edit the settings for the selected dictionary.
  3. 'Delete': delete the selected dictionary.
  4. 'Refresh': refresh the dictionary list.
  5. Dictionary List: Existing dictionaries are listed in the main area of the window.

'New > Add default dictionaries'

Click 'New > Add default dictionaries' to install the default Adobe® InDesign® dictionaries to your one2edit™ workspace.

NOTE:

There can only be one dictionary per language. If any custom dictionaries exist that have the same language as a default InDesign dictionary, then that default InDesign dictionary cannot be installed.

Therefore, if you wish to install all of the default InDesign dictionaries, you will need to do one of the following:

  • install the default dictionaries before you have created any custom dictionaries
  • ensure that your custom dictionaries have different languages to the default InDesign dictionaries
  • delete the relevant custom dictionaries before you add the default InDesign dictionaries

'New > New Dictionary'

'New > New Dictionary'

Click 'New > New Dictionary' to open the 'New Dictionary' window.

  1. 'Properties' tab: You can edit the properties of your new dictionary here.
  2. 'Learned Words' tab: Once the dictionary has been created (by clicking 'Apply'), any content can be found at this tab.
  3. 'Language' drop-down menu: The language of your new dictionary can be selected here.
  4. 'Name' field: You can give your new dictionary a name.
  5. 'Description' field: You can give a description for your dictionary here.

NOTE:

All new custom dictionaries created in this way start as blank dictionaries. They will fill up with content as you add words to them.

NOTE:

There can only be one dictionary per language. If any custom dictionaries exist that have the same language as a default InDesign dictionary, then that default InDesign dictionary cannot be installed.

'Edit': Dictionary Details > Properties tab

'Edit': Dictionary Details > Properties tab

You can edit the properties of an existing dictionary by clicking the 'Edit' button in the 'Dictionaries' window.

Only the name and description of the dictionary can be updated here.

NOTE:

Clicking 'Apply' when creating a new dictionary will create that dictionary, thus converting the 'New Dictionary' window into the 'Dictionary Details' window.

'Edit': Dictionary Details > Learned Words

'Edit': Dictionary Details > Learned Words

The 'Learned Words' tab contains the words from this dictionary.

When users indicate that the dictionary should remember an unrecognized word, that word is added to the 'Popular' list on the right-hand side of this window.

NOTE:

  • An administrator may convert 'Popular' words into permanent dictionary additions (i.e. add them to the 'Words' column) by dragging them or clicking the green '+' beside the word.
  • Clicking the red 'X' beside a word will delete that word from the dictionary.
  • Dictionary words may also be directly edited in this tab.
