Master Document Editor - Tools menu

Created on 18th November 2016 at 16:13 by Jamie O'Connell

This section describes the 'Tools' menu in the 'Master Document Editor'.

Important:

Please note that this section only describes the menu options at a high-level. For more in-depth explanations, please refer to the appropriate parts of the manual.

'Tools > Compare Revisions'

If you select a segment and click 'Tools > Compare Revisions', the 'Compare Revisions' window will open. In this window you can view the revision history of the selected text segment.

(1) The 'Compare Source' selection offers you the choice to compare revisions with the 'Selected Text', or to compare one revision with another.

(2) In this example, two revisions are being compared with one another.

(3) The differences between the two revisions are displayed in the right-hand pane. The user can see what was done to make the segment look like the 'source' segment. Anything added to the text segment will be marked in green while anything deleted will be highlighted in red.

'Tools > Count Objects'

'Tools > Count Objects'

The 'Count Object' window displays the number of images and text elements, as well as the word and character counts.

'Tools > Reset Versions'

'Tools > Reset Versions'

The 'Reset Versions' command enables you to reset selected items of content in specific version documents. This means setting the selected content back to what is in the master document (i.e. un-doing text, image, or layout edits). The status of the selected items may also be reset.

'Tools > Apply Segmentation'

'Tools > Apply Segmentation'

The text of a document can be split into manageable chunks with the help of segmentation rules. This can be helpful for editing jobs, especially where machine translation is involved.

The chosen segmentation rules can be applied to a 'Selected Content Group', any 'Selected Items', or the entire 'Document'.

From the 'Action' list, you can choose to make segments according to the selected segmentation rules.

Alternatively, you can make text segments that contain:

  • the original InDesign® stories (a story being defined as a chapter)
  • paragraphs (a paragraph being defined as the text segment in between two hard breaks)
  • the text of the entire document

These last three options do not require segmentation rules or a language to be chosen.

If predefined segmentation rules exist, you can choose the appropriate one from the 'Segmentation Rules' drop-down list. If not, the one2edit default segmentation rules (segment into sentences) will always be available.

A segmentation ruleset can contain different rules for multiple languages. You can choose the appropriate language from the 'Language' list.

NOTE:

For more information about segmentation rules and their creation please refer to the 'How to' lessons.

NOTE:

The default segmentation that occurs within a document is segmentation into 'Paragraphs'.
