How to add a new text frame

Created on 20th April 2015 at 14:29 by Jamie O'Connell

This lesson shows how to add a new text frame in a master document.

NOTE:
This lesson is only valid for one2edit v3.8.x or later.

Select the 'Create Frame' tool

Select the 'Create Frame' tool from the one2edit™ toolbar.

NOTE:
This tool is only available in the master document.

Draw the frame

Draw the new frame in your document.

NOTE:
Once the frame has been drawn, it is possible to use the 'Edit Frame' panel on the right-hand side of the window to fine-tune the frame measurements and position.

Open menu for the new frame

You need to define what type of content the new frame will contain.

To do this, open the frame menu:

  1. via the frame itself in the document preview.
  2. via the 'Structure' panel.

Move your mouse over the triangle to pop out the frame menu.

NOTE:
In the document preview, the triangle may disappear if the frame is not in focus. If that happens, you should click within the frame to select it, or select the frame via the 'Structure' panel.

Define frame content as 'Text'

Under the frame menu, select either 'Insert Text' or 'Content > Text'. This will define the frame's content type as text.

In the example above we click 'Content > Text' to define a 'Text' frame.

Open the 'Text Editor' window – via document preview

  1. Because one2edit™ now knows that this frame is supposed to contain text, the 'Edit Text' option becomes available in the frame menu.
  2. Click 'Edit Text' to open the 'Text Editor' window.

Open the 'Text Editor' window – via 'Structure' panel

  1. Alternatively, you can find the blank text segment in the 'Structure' panel.
  2. Click 'Edit Text' from the segment's drop-down menu to open the text editor.

Add text content

  1. Type in some text as normal via the editor window.
  2. When the text is complete, simply click 'Apply' to render this text in the document.

Text has been rendered in the new frame

You should now see your new text segment inside your new text frame.
