Assign Content Rules to Content Groups and specific items

Created on 10th June 2024 at 17:42 by Jamie O'Connell

This lesson shows you how to assign Content Rules to entire Content Groups and to individual content items.

Assign to a Content Group

Content Rules assigned to a Content Group apply to all of the content items within that Content Group. There is no need to assign rules to every item individually.

  1. Open the Content Group Details dialog by double-clicking the Content Group tab. There are two fields for Content Rules: Edit Content Rules and Review Content Rules.
  2. Open the Content Rules (Policies) dialog by double-clicking in either Content Rules field. Then drag-and-drop rule sets to the appropriate field(s).
  3. Edit Content Rules: Rules dropped here apply to users in the very first workflow step only (i.e. the Edit/Translation step).
  4. Review Content Rules: Rules dropped here apply to users in any and all of the following workflow steps (i.e. the Review steps).

NOTE: You may add multiple sets of Content Rules to each field. The rules will be AND-ed together so that they will all apply.

Assign to individual items

It is also possible to assign rules to specific content items in a document.

  1. Select the content item (i.e. text segment or image) to which you want to assign Content Rules. After selecting it, some panels on the right-hand side will appear.
  2. Click the icon to open the Content Rules panel.
  3. Open the Content Rules (Policies) dialog by double-clicking in either Content Rules field. Then drag-and-drop rule sets to the appropriate field(s).

NOTE: The selected content item must be already assigned a Content Group. It is not possible to assign Content Rules to items that will not be editable in a Job.

NOTE: Assigning Content Rules directly to an item will add these rules (via a logical AND) to any existing Content-Group rules. In other words, the individually-assigned rules do not override those of the Content Group, but instead supplement them.
