Creating Language Sets

Created on 16th February 2024 at 17:56 by Jamie O'Connell

In this lesson, you will create a Language Set and assign languages to it.

A Language Set is a set of languages with a shared Translation Memory (TM).

Translations can be imported to a Language-Set TM using TMX or Excel-XML files, and completed translations can be automatically written to a Language Set at the end of a Job.

Create a new Language Set

  1. Select a folder in the Language Sets dialog (or create a new folder and select that).
  2. Click the + (plus) button in the Language Sets area.
  3. Name the new Language Set.
  4. Click Apply to create the Language Set.
  5. The new set will appear on the right of the Language Sets dialog.

NOTE: Clicking Save will close the Language Set Details window. To re-open the dialog, double-click the new Language Set.

Assign Languages to a Language Set

  1. Select the Languages tab in the Language Set Details dialog.
  2. You can filter the list of available languages by typing into the filter field.
  3. Drag and drop any required languages (multi-select and drag is possible) to the language list and choose their hyphenation settings.
  4. Click Save.

NOTE: It is vital to also add the source language to your Language Set. Otherwise, matches between the target languages and the source language cannot be created.

Viewing the contents of a Language Set

  1. The languages assigned to a Language Set are displayed when a set is selected.
  2. Click Open Set TM in the set's option menu to view its translation memory (TM).

NOTE: A brand new Language Set will not contain any translations. You must import your own content via TMX or Excel-XML files. You can also populate the TM by using the Commit Translations workflow action in your workflows.
