Master Document Editor - Text-Frame Menu

The Text-Frame menu enables the editing and deleting of frames, as well as organising the frame within the document. It also gives access to tools for segmenting the document, setting up Frame Rules, etc.

NOTE: This section gives a high-level description. For more in-depth explanations, please refer to the appropriate parts of the Knowledge Base.

Text-Frame Menu

This menu can be opened via the Structure Panel (as shown in the screenshot), or from the drop-down arrow on the Text Frame itself.

  • Edit Text: Open the first editable segment from the frame in the text editor.
  • Select All: Select all of the text segments within the frame.
  • Segmentation > Make segments using stories: Merge all segments within this frame's story into a single segment.
  • Segmentation > Change Segmentation: Opens the Apply Segmentation dialog.
  • Content Group: Pops out a list of Content Groups. All content in the text frame will be assigned to the chosen Content Group.
  • Edit Frame: Opens the frame editor for this frame.
  • Delete Frame: Deletes this frame from the document.
  • Layer: Pops out a list of the Layers in the document. The current layer is marked. The frame will be moved to the chosen Layer.
  • Arrange: Move the frame forwards or backwards in the spread hierarchy (z-axis).
  • Frame Rules > Document Frame Rules: Opens the Frame Rules - Document dialog, where you can set the rules for all frames in the document.
  • Frame Rules > Individual Frame Rules: Opens the Frame Rules - Individual dialog, where you can set the rules for this frame alone.
  • Default Text Rules: Opens the Text Rules dialog, where you can assign Text Rules for the document.
  • Text Frame Options: Opens the Text Frame Options dialog.

Text-Frame Menu if One Segment Selected

This menu must be opened via the drop-down arrow on the Text Frame itself.

  • Edit Text: Open the selected segment in the Text Editor.
  • Select All: Select all of the text segments within the frame.
  • Segmentation > Insert Segment: Insert a new segment After or Before the selected segment.
  • Segmentation > Duplicate Segment: Duplicate the selected segment.
  • Segmentation > Delete Segment: Delete the selected segment from the frame.
  • Segmentation > Segment Type: Set the selected segment's type to Text or Delimiter.
  • Segmentation > Make segments using stories: Merge all segments within this frame's story into a single segment.
  • Segmentation > Change Segmentation: Opens the Apply Segmentation dialog.
  • Add Note: Add a note to the selected segment.
  • Content Group: Pops out a list of Content Groups. All content in the text frame will be assigned to the chosen Content Group.
  • Edit Frame: Opens the frame editor for this frame.
  • Delete Frame: Deletes this frame from the document.
  • Layer: Pops out a list of the Layers in the document. The current layer is marked. The frame will be moved to the chosen Layer.
  • Arrange: Move the frame forwards or backwards in the spread hierarchy (z-axis).
  • Frame Rules: Opens the Frame Rules - Document dialog or the Frame Rules - Individual dialog.
  • Default Text Rules: Opens the Text Rules dialog, where you can assign Text Rules for the document.
  • Text Frame Options: Opens the Text Frame Options dialog.

NOTE: Using the frame menu via the Structure Panel will de-select the Text Segment.

 

Text-Frame Menu if Multiple Segments Selected

This menu must be opened via the drop-down arrow on the Text Frame itself.

  • Edit Text: Open the first selected segment in the Text Editor.
  • Select All: Select all of the text segments within the frame.
  • Segmentation > Duplicate Segments: Duplicate the selected segments.
  • Segmentation > Merge Segments: Merge the selected segments. If the selected segments are non-consecutive, you will need to merge all of the segments in between.
  • Segmentation > Delete Segments: Delete the selected segments from the frame.
  • Segmentation > Segments Type: Set the selected segments' type to Text or Delimiter.
  • Segmentation > Make segments using stories: Merge all segments within this frame's story into a single segment.
  • Segmentation > Change Segmentation: Opens the Apply Segmentation dialog.
  • Content Group: Pops out a list of Content Groups. All content in the text frame will be assigned to the chosen Content Group.
  • Edit Frame: Opens the frame editor for this frame.
  • Delete Frame: Deletes this frame from the document.
  • Layer: Pops out a list of the Layers in the document. The current layer is marked. The frame will be moved to the chosen Layer.
  • Arrange: Move the frame forwards or backwards in the spread hierarchy (z-axis).
  • Frame Rules: Opens the Frame Rules - Document dialog or the Frame Rules - Individual dialog.
  • Default Text Rules: Opens the Text Rules dialog, where you can assign Text Rules for the document.
  • Text Frame Options: Opens the Text Frame Options dialog.

NOTE: Using the frame menu via the Structure Panel will de-select the Text Segments. You should use the Action Menu instead to perform actions on selections of multiple segments.
