Filtering the Document Structure to Populate a Content Group

Created on 30th June 2023 at 17:49 by Jamie O'Connell

It is possible to filter the document structure so that only relevant content is displayed.

This filtered content can all be assigned to a content group at once.

Structure Filter

Click Filter to expand the filter options in the Structure Panel.

Choose Filter Type

  1. Click the + (plus) button to expand the list of filter options.
  2. Choose the filter you wish to add from the list.

In our example, we are going to filter in only text items, so that we can add all text from the document to our Content Group.

NOTE: It is possible to add and apply a combination of multiple filters.

Configure and Apply Filter

  1. Tailor the filter from the options presented. Here we will set the filter to only include text items, while ignoring delimiter and image items.
  2. Click the Apply button to filter the document structure.
  1. While a filter is active, a summary of the items now included in the structure is shown at the bottom of the Structure Panel (in this case, 23 text segments and zero images).
  2. The Apply button remains pressed while the filter is active. Clicking it again will toggle the filter off.

NOTE: Adding a new filter at this point will switch off the current filter.

Assign filtered Items to the Content Group

Select all of the spreads (Shift-Click) and choose the target Content Group from the option menu. This will assign all filtered items on all spreads (i.e. 23 text segments) to the chosen Content Group.

Click 'OK'

Because you have selected non-content items (e.g. Spreads, Layers, Frames...), you will receive a warning that only the content from the selected items will be moved to the Content Group.

Click OK to assign all items to the Content Group.
