How to manually set the source of fonts for a project

Created on 16th June 2023 at 15:05 by Jamie O'Connell

When a Project is created in one2edit™, the font files used by the document need to be available to Adobe® InDesign® Server.

You can manually select the location of the font files via the Project Details dialog.

The options are:

  • use all Font Packages in the Client Workspace (i.e. those uploaded via Settings > Font Packages)
  • use a specific Font Package that has been uploaded to the Client Workspace via Settings > Font Packages
  • use the font files in a specific folder (e.g. the Document fonts subfolder from an uploaded InDesign® package)
  • any combination of the above

NOTE: If you have composite font files, you must ensure that the Document fonts folder contains all of the individual font files used/reference by the composite fonts.

NOTE: Please ensure that your font files conform to those formats supported by Adobe® InDesign®. For example, as of Adobe® InDesign® 2023 (version 18) Type 1 fonts (also known as PostScript fonts) are no longer supported, this also affects InDesign® Server.

Open the Project Details Dialog

  1. Choose Properties from the Project's Option Menu
  2. Select the Fonts tab

Select where to find the fonts for this Project

In the Fonts tab, there are three options to choose from:

  • Use all font packages: use fonts from across all Font Packages that were uploaded to this workspace via Settings > Font Packages
  • Choose font package: use fonts only from a chosen Font Package that has been uploaded to this Workspace via Settings > Font Packages
  • Choose font folder: use fonts only from a chosen folder in an Asset Project
  1. Select an option from the drop-down menu
  2. If Choose font folder was selected, you must now click the Choose button to select the folder that contains your fonts (e.g. a Document fonts folder).

NOTE: Selecting Choose font package displays a second drop-down menu that lists all Font Packages that have been uploaded to the Workspace. You then choose the one that contains the fonts for your Project.

Choosing a font folder

If you have selected Choose font folder and clicked Choose, you now need to select the folder in the Asset Browser.

  1. Select the folder containing the fonts for this project
  2. Click Choose

Validate your fonts

  1. The chosen font folder is added to the top of the Fonts tab
  2. Click Apply & Validate
  3. The Missing Font icons should disappear, if all font files are present in the chosen folder
  4. Click Save and close the Project Details dialog

NOTE: The Apply & Validate button will become a Validate button after changes have been applied. You can use the Validate button to check the Project's fonts at any time.

Select multiple font sources for a Project

  1. You can select multiple font sources by using the + (plus) button. Click it to add a new source.
  2. You could, for example, select Choose font package, which will display another drop down menu from which you can choose any Font Package uploaded to this Client Workspace.

NOTE: You should not choose two different sources for the same font file(s), as this can lead to issues with Adobe® InDesign® Server.
