Linking segments to cells in Excel files

Created on 05th December 2017 at 10:38 by Jamie O'Connell

Open the 'Data Sources' panel for a segment

  1. Select a segment that will contain information from the Excel spreadsheet.
  2. Open the 'Data Sources' panel for the segment.

NOTE:
To get a segment in the middle of a sentence requires manual segmentation of the sentence, or customised segmentation rules.

Ensure that the correct Excel file is being referenced

If there are multiple Excel spreadsheets linked to this project, you must ensure that the correct one is chosen in the 'Data Source' field.

Clicking the 'down' triangle on the right-hand side will provide a list of all linked data sources.

Hovering your cursor over the 'Data Source' field will display the full path of the chosen Excel file.

Check the worksheet name and cell address

In the Excel spreadsheet:

  1. Check the name of the worksheet to be referenced.
  2. Check the address of the cell that contains the data for this segment.

In this case, the worksheet is named 'Income Statement' and the cell address is 'L7'.

Insert the cell-location data into the DataSources panel

  1. Using the drop-down menus, fill in the values for the 'Sheet', 'Row', and 'Column'.
  2. The value stored in the chosen cell is shown in the 'Cell Value' field, and can be checked to ensure the correct value is being referenced.

NOTE:
The segment text will not update automatically at this point. Updates can be triggered manually, or will occur automatically when changes are made to the Excel file (if that option is selected).
