Items on the Pasteboard

Created on 11th April 2017 at 12:21 by Jamie O'Connell

Do not leave elements on the InDesign® pasteboard if the document is going to enter a translation workflow. Text elements that are fully on the pasteboard will still appear in the document structure, and become a part of the translation process, thus increasing translation costs.

Therefore, items that are not needed in the document should be removed instead of being hidden. The same point applies to elements on hidden layers.

NOTE: Frames and frame content that extend onto the pasteboard (e.g. for bleed reasons) are not a problem, nor are print-related marks. Issues only arise when an object is discarded to the pasteboard (i.e. it is not intended to be a part of the useable document).

NOTE: Graphics that are entirely on the pasteboard are still in the document structure. A graphic will obviously not contain text for the translation workflow. However, best practice is also to remove unwanted graphics instead of simply hiding them.

"Invisible" items on the pasteboard

Items on the pasteboard are not visible in the one2edit preview, but do exist in the document structure
