8. Anchored Objects

Created on 11th April 2017 at 12:20 by Jamie O'Connell

Objects that must occur at specific positions respective to the text (i.e. not float freely) can be set up in InDesign using the "Insert Anchored Object" feature. Place the cursor at the position in the text to which the object placement will be relative, then use "Object > Anchored object > Insert ..." to anchor an object to that location.

NOTE:
If possible, anchor objects to the start or end of a section of text (i.e. not in the middle). This makes it easier for a one2edit™ administrator to ensure that such ‘anchor’ characters are not contained in editable text segments. Workflow issues may occur if these inline characters are deleted during translation in third-party systems.

NOTE:
Images that occur in the text (e.g. logos, products, etc.) can be placed directly in the text as inline graphics.

NOTE:
If you have many graphics to accompany the text, all with different indents, it is advisable to create the entire layout using tables.

NOTE:
As text length changes during localization, the relative position of other text frames may be maintained.

These options ensure that frames on a spread always stay together correctly.
